Sam Gravell

Business English Trainer, Course Developer, Training Consultant, Speaker & Facilitator

With over a decade of training experience in dynamic, international environments, a Master’s Degree in Education, and Cambridge CELTA and Trinity CertIBET certifications, I specialize in designing, developing, and delivering engaging, effective, and needs-based learning experiences.

Additionally, I share and inspire other educators internationally with webinars, workshops, and presentations on the principled use of A.I in transforming their practice. I have extensive experience with all elements of curriculum design, and I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Every intervention— from in house business English programs to professional development events for university teachers— begins with a needs analysis and the content is tailored to the individuals and their goals and interests.

“Sam came to my attention initially through his inspired blog posts on the subject of integrating AI tools such as ChatGPT into his corporate training and language teaching activities. I sensed that he was a teacher and trainer who was able to incorporate these emergent technologies into his training in a way that remained true to the core learner-oriented pedagogic principles that we both share. Having made contact, we planned, publicised and delivered an online webinar on the subject in February 2023 (along with Svetlana Kandybovich), attended by well over 100 participants. Throughout the process, Sam’s enthusiasm, energy and commitment were evident, and demonstrably helped ensure the success of the event. Not only is he a fluent and engaging presenter, but his willingness to freely share his extensive experience is commendable. I really look forward to collaborating with Sam on future occasions.”

I recently had the opportunity to participate in a webinar titled ‘Creating Courses for Your Business with ChatGPT,’ presented by Sam. Given the abundance of content on ChatGPT since its launch, I signed up with modest expectations, only to be completely blown away by the session’s depth and delivery.

Sam’s presentation skillfully demonstrated his extensive knowledge of English language teaching through the sophisticated prompts and plug-ins that he utilized with ChatGPT. His expertise in Dogme and TBLT approaches, which align with my teaching style, was the icing on the cake.

His deft navigation of ChatGPT showcased not just an in-depth grasp of language education but also a visionary use of AI within the field.

Sam demonstrates an impressive eagerness to share his knowledge with others and is conscientious about giving credit where credit is due.

“Sam is a versatile and creative person and a master in remote working.
It was always a pleasure for me to participate in the English trainings in our company, where Sam was teaching.

As an English trainer and conversation partner Sam is a very flexible and open person.

He recognizes fast the individual language level of the trainees and shapes the training sessions in order to meet the needs of the group.
I experienced our English class meetings as casual yet productive and really interesting conversations that helped me to improve my language skills and feel safer applying them.
I would heartily recommend Sam for companies looking for a great English trainer.”

“Sam’s workshop style was participant-centric and task-based. He engaged participants actively, sparking their interest and transforming it into an interactive experience rather than a one-sided presentation. The sequencing of the workshop content, ensuring a seamless flow, was particularly impressive. Sam skillfully gave ample opportunities for the attendees to exercise their critical thinking, resulting in their active engagement throughout the workshop; it would be appropriate to say that his style had a touch of patience and poise, especially noticeable when he was listening to their answers. He enabled learning and provided ample room for interpretations and contribution through the setup of smart and engaging tasks, which were relatable to the teaching contexts of specific individuals. His feedback was helpful in enhancing the participants’ learning experience. Teachers were encouraged to ask questions and share opinions, and Sam’s attentive listening created a real- time experience. He consistently provided input for better clarity in content and context.

Overall, it was a great learning experience for all involved, both those attending the event in person and online. ELTAS wishes Sam the best for his future endeavors and hopes to learn more about such online tools.”
